It is my hope by writing this, the issues addressed will be well received and change can be made and ideals can be shared.

My goals are to help at least one person, spread the flow of knowledge and ideas and foster good relationships between Americans, soldiers, and all the citizens of the world. I’m not a world leader or some great writer, just a regular guy, and a soldier.

Although the situation in Iraq through the eyes of us soldiers will be my focal point I will also address other issues of interest to me and others.

Thank you for listening and reading my thoughts.

I can’t give you my direct location but I am in the Baghdad area. It’s quite a hell hole, not everyday is a bad day, but thoughts of loved ones and life back in America creep into your mind at all times.

I’m an E-4 or Specialist promotable soon to be Sergeant, my primary job is Communications making sure everyone can talk and I tag along on raids and missions to make sure everything works.

Iraq is of course a third world country, but in a way it’s not. Palaces and Architecture are plentiful in Baghdad, Basra, and other bigger cities, but majority of Iraq consist of villages and arid desert to the west. It’s very hot and dry so I have to constantly put lotion on to keep from drying up like a raisin.

Rocket attacks and IEDs are the norm and after awhile, sadly you get use to them.

People you’ve formed a bond with your coworkers you entrust with your life daily and when the unfortunate happens it’s a really sad day here.

I’ve been through a lot since being here. Three days before coming here my sister was found killed.

While I’ve been here the stress of multiple deployments strained my marriage and we recently got a divorce.

My problems pale in comparison to others, so I don’t spend time complaining or focus on it much on them even though inside it hurts.

Beauty

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

She is beautiful, so very beautiful
Just like a winter’s shining landscape,
As delicate as the petals of a daisy,
And as freely as the eagle soaring against the blue

Her eyes are as mysterious as the calm sea
Everything about her is so very precious,
More precious than all the gems in the world
Her soul is the essence of the sky and earth,
Her feelings are a volcano that is yet to explode
Her smile is the smile of lost innocence.

Pain vibrates deep inside of her gentle heart.
A lock shuts in the disturbed thoughts of her mind,
A mind with as many roads as the world has.
I look at her and I see a pure truth,
Like looking at a clear night sky,
Millions of stars twinkle within her.

She is beauty as I defined it,
She is perfect, her imperfections make her so.
And I would give up all the things which I think are pretty
If only I can hold her beauty within me

Feel the Sound

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

We become the sound
The beat flows within us
The rhythm is a melody of sound
A sound that has us moving and grooving through the night
Our souls become one with the lyrics
The artist speaks to us through his rhymes and beats
Twisting and turning
Gyrating and moving
Sweat flows from our bodies like flowing river
The mood is on point
The feelings so good
The abundance of laughter and music
Lightens the mood and soothes the spirit
Live for the moment
Free yourself
The artistic vibe of the night intensifies
The air is so full of life
The crowd grows
The faces abound
New experiences renew the soul
The night draws long
The beat in my ear
The music in our soul
We become the sound
We feel the beat
Oh, what a night

Day and Night

BY: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

I am tough!
I persevere!
I have the will power of a God!
I am never at my best, I have no limits, and I fear only God
My minds been muddled and filled with mixed feelings and I become numb to the pain, but my inner self said
“Don’t quit and don’t regret”
My body is tired!
I shoulder a heavy burden!
The cries of millions in my ears I hear, but still I push on Tested and Strong!
The sun beats down with fierce intensity and the wind whips up the sand and dirt, making it stings my skin and blinds my eyes, but somewhere in the distance I hear a voice and it tells me
“Keep moving, stay strong”!
Far away from everything I know and love!
Thrust into a foreign land!
Forced to fight or be killed in spite, but day and night I pray for a better day
Day and night I pray for peace
Day and night I pray
I pray
I pray
