thinker

When I grow up I want to live without fear

Without the struggle to survive in trying times

I don’t want riches

But wealth in knowledge I do seek

Cause money runs but knowledge is power that stays

Knowledge makes money

Money doesn’t make knowledge

Fear isn’t a real emotion

It is but the absence of courage

Courage to face reality and conquer that void

The void is an expansion of thought triggered by lack of focus

Forever lost unless seized by the freethinker

The truth of the matter is we are brainwashed into a thought process

Hindered by the media and the latest trend

Take me back to the thoughts of my ancestors

Pure in thinking and free of polluted additives

Truth of the matter is I am a man seeking knowledge

So as I may educate my fellow brotha and sista

So I can pull our thoughts out of the one track we fell on

Hatred isn’t real it is but the absence of love

Love is the emotion that is hard to embrace

It loves us and nurtures

Then it rips us apart

Piece by piece till we are reborn anew

Able to love again

Nobody hears the world cry

They just stand by and watch it die

But I heard its soul weep

What a sad sound it was

The sound was soulful and very deep

I say, “hey there world, why do you cry?”

It says to me with a sorrowed tone

No one respects me

No one cares

I feel so neglected

But I have hope to be corrected

Unappreciated is the feeling I feel most

The people that walk me do nothing but boast

They say hey look what I did today

Instead of saying thank you earth for providing the necessities

Because of you world my life can be prosperous

The earth grew a soul and I heard it speak

It said save me from myself

Cause I am spinning out of control

What am I but a man?

Not trusted

Unloved

Forever lonely

The faults of my fellow man haunting my mind state

Ruining my chance to enjoy all of life’s fulfillments

The sad story continues to be woven in the tapestry of our existence

Not the man that does you wrong

I’m the one who revitalizes your soul

Not the fellow who hides behind many mask

But whose true face shines through to your heart

My heart is heavy

Bearing the burden of others faults

Instead of just my own

Sifting through the rhetoric trying to find the golden stone of truth

But it’s not found by me

I am the different brotha

Sought for counsel

But not for love

The friend

Not the lover

The scrub gets the beauty of her

I must rebuild her from the broken pieces

Lord how I long to be an exclusive type of love

Free of the shifty nature of fallen love

Totally committed

Never drifting away

The strong bonds of man and woman is what I seek

But instead I travel the lonely road

My salvation put on hold

I travel this road alone

For I am a man

A black man facing the bleak realities of today

A world filled with greed and corruption eats away at my prosperity

Reposition myself

Endless opportunities are afforded to me

For I am a strong brotha from a caring mother

A smooth dude with a jazzy soul

Clinging on the cusp of greatness

Swagger like me

Inspirational souls from my ancestral past

Keep me grounded on the road to salvation

With the wisdom and insight to take the road less traveled

Past poets live within me pushing me to finish the unwritten masterpiece

Spiritual journey

I am free as a caged bird spreading my wings on the mountaintop

Fighting adversity to grasp the dream laid forth by my forefathers

Through this pen flow all emotions, knowledge, dreams and realities

Open your eyes, ears and hearts to me

This immense feeling of freedom rings

In my ears like the tool of the liberty bell

So many years before my time

So many fears and so many tears

We have shed and shed throughout this turbulent year

A lifetime it seems of wishing and waiting

On the tide of change eagerly waiting to embrace our souls

Loss of faith along the way coupled with loss blessings

Combine to form chaos in the lives of young men and women

Dangers we face

Tragedy we overcome

The outlooks of strangers change over time

And the bond between us becomes stronger

New challenges we face in route to our destinations

Dreams deferred and lives put on hold

Awaiting this unholy war to finally end

I wish, no I pray for good fortune to all

As we reach out destinations

On our way home

The Man behind his Masks

man-behind-the-masks

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

He is a chameleon

His masks are the many faces of personality

But not his just the stereotypes he portrays

His identity lost with the days

Lost are his wants, needs and fears

His true self gone with the flowing winds of time

He is a playa, a renaissance man of lies and deceit

He lays waste to others emotions and sanity

But inside he is destroyed mentally and emotionally

He is a desecrating shell of confusion

His identity crisis is exposed at times

But not often

He is the master of disguise

The epitome of mystery

Self centered mindsets thriving off the attention of others

To him people are footstools to his self conceived greatness

The sympathetic listener and the passionate lover are fronts

Used to hurt and maim

Spoken from his lying tongue

Unable to deeply satisfy

Unavailable when needed

But always ready with excuses

The liar, the playa, emotionally disturbed, condescending, abomination to mankind

He is the man behind the masks
