when-youve-been-where-ive-been

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

Where have you been in your travels through life?

Did you take the easy route and drive through it all?

Carefree and single with out a worry about a soul

Or did you walk a few miles on burning sands and through troubled lands

Barefoot and thirsty

Praying for salvation that will never come

To a lowly soul such as yourself

Dismissed

Deceived

Betrayed

Neglected

By the world at large

Crushed like the aluminum can under the feet of my peers

Shattered and dashed like ashes from the urn that contains the remnants from your pathetic soul

Simplistic emotions complex scenarios

Explain to me the reason for breeding future ignorance

For hating your fellow brother who is trying to make a living just like you

Carrying a generation on his back

Whip scars never disappeared

They became mental instead of physical

Self perceived power is but a myth unless actions are taken to make it better

See you only see part of the story unless you dig deep within and search for the truth

The truth so obvious to the naked eye

It’s piercing stare strikes your heart through your soul

Invading your thoughts

she-loves-me-not

I love you

(Or do I really)

I love the way you make me feel

(It makes me uneasy when I think of you too much)

Between these sheets of cotton and silk

We lay and explore each other

I can’t fathom being with another

(Being here with you I am missing out on others)

Pleasurable sparks of love’s best friend

(Agonizing lonesomeness of an empty love)

I am yours and you are mind forever

(Or does your heart belong to another and I’m just being played)

Our bonded trust gets stronger with time

(Or is it an act or a front to deceive my feelings)

Everything about you is perfect and fine

(Except for a few flaws that nag at my mind over time)

You’re my disease baby

Spreading like wildfire throughout my mind

(Or is the disease really he virus called love that infects the reality of my mind)

I’m addicted to the emotion hidden behind passionate eyes

(Or do those same eyes deceive my trusting soul)

See the problem with feelings is they develop too quickly

Before we can really judge whether they are true or not

The rollercoaster ride of emotions add substance to a once dull life

Deceiving the loved and the loving into precarious positions

Ups and downs

Twist and turns

I’m the master of the controls

(Till I run off course and crash and burn)

The love I thought was there is not

Or is it….

empty-nothings

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

No money, no love, not a place to call my own

Empty pockets, empty hearts and a weathered shell of emptiness

Where do you find such lovely amenities?

Love, passion and wealth galore

To the four corners I have searched and as the wind blows I am carried further away from loveliness

But nothing is found

Not one passionate heart

Not one empty shack

A simple man I portray myself as

Not asking for too much

Just three simple completions to my long and empty life

What is a man that has nothing?

Others must be so lucky, blessed or highly favored

No greenbacks for me

Not one goodnight kiss

Not even an apartment on the east side of town

Am I cursed, rejected or down on my luck

Or am I just delusional to reality and neglecting the facts

Only looking at the surface

Instead of what’s beneath

Cause one I look within

Happiness sought is already within my grasp

Love of self, family and friends as well

Money in my pocket not too much or too little

Home is where the heart is

It’s also what you make it

A place where empty nothings cannot dwell

Instead just full completeness

hidden-genius

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

He sits and listens intently

When asked his opinion a few simple words he utters

Their amazed by his intelligence

Young features with an old soul

Not a very striking character

But when he writes words come to life

Life is made wonderful by the strokes of his pen

He tells a story of love

He spins a tale about life’s experiences

Old times and new

Lost love and life’s harsh realities

A gentleman is what his family calls him

A scholar is what his peers call him

A soldier is what his nation calls him

A lover is what his lady calls him

Simple descriptions barely scratch the surface

The depth of his personality is as deep as the ocean trench

As wide as the universe above

As bright as the high noon sun

He writes to restore

He writes to help

He writes to renew

His journey as just begun

Endless days exploring the path of his talents

Talents long hidden behind silent lips and a lively mind

Burst forth when freed spewed on the masses is knowledge and love

Deep and thoughtful

Harsh and deceitful

Loving and nurturing

Melodies and rhyme connotations expressed on blank pages

He is slowly finding his voice

Taken from the words he expresses so deeply

Soon to be heard by every living being

A hidden genius he is no more

My laughter has returned

For so long my soul has been trapped in a dismal reality

But I have been redeemed from the darkness of depression

Brought back to love

Back to a comfort I haven’t felt in a while

The art of romance restores a being to their rightful self

Focused because everyone needs love and love needs everyone

My mind feels so free

Free as the soaring eagle

Free to dream and wonder

Free to pursue goals realized so far back in the past life

Talents long forgotten

Dreams put on hold

Deferred to a latter time

Pushed back into the mind by life’s dailies

Almost forgotten with the passage

The bond shared with another grows stronger with time

Love of self is a must before loving another

Forever more

Forever

Forever

I strive to be better

light

Sunlight Moonlight

Guide me through life with your beacons of life

Sunlight Moonlight

Help me through the day and again at night

Sunlight Moonlight

Bright beacons of hope and life

Sunlight Moonlight

Can you light my path today?

Sunlight Moonlight

Clear a path for me during the day and throughout the night

The Darkness

darkness

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

The absence of light, that’s what they call darkness

Am imaginary void of fledgling light, that’s what they call darkness

No such thing as the opposite of light

Not feasible in the least of ways

But they don’t understand darkness from the way I see it

See darkness is as real as you and I

Darkness is a feeling of dread and depression

A feeling of invisibility and supremacy

Those lonely times spent wondering about another

The colored skin of a proud people

The earth we toil over to produce life’s sustenance

The mood that’s set for two lovers fantasies

See darkness is seen in a different perspective to me

It takes many forms in many different ways

Darkness hides the mysteries of life

Brought forth by the light in its all revealing grace

Dark pools when I look through your eyes

Through your eyes I see the soul

A perfect balance of light and dark

Neither entity of good nor evil

What the darkness hides the light reveals

What the light can’t handle the darkness masks the reality

Darkness is inspiration for creative minds

Cause out of the darkness and to the light

My thoughts flourish

The stroke of my pen endures

A perfect balance of light and dark

My soul
