red and blue

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

Scratch the surface of me

And you’ll find out what I am meant to be

A tiny voice hidden in a mass field of voices

Struggling to be heard by at least one

That one will tell another and another will tell another

That one day what was written by one inspired a generation

A lost people

A lost soul

To fight back against lies spoken and written by people that love misery

With greed they try to conquer your thoughts

Helping you to make decisions that do benefit you

But instead line their filthy pockets with all your hopes and dreams

Right wing conspiracy vs. Left wing controversy

Two sides fighting for their version of right

But what about the people that matter

Us

We

The supposed United States broken up into Red and Blue

Why not join to make Purple states

Where the Red and Blue join together to make one

Converging ideas that make the ideal of the United States seem right and true

Politics sicken me

Politicians I despise

We elected you and we can take you away

Support each other for the betterment of US

For the betterment of WE

For the continued success of the United States

Just Like Music

just like music

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

I hear that beat that rumbles the streets

As we dance and dance in this midnight heat

It bounces through the ears of the people of the night

Flying high in the air like a high flying kite

It moves and sashays like a dancing lady

Or like the dance you dance when the checks fat on payday

Rhythmic harmonies betray my feet

Making some dance till they fall asleep

But this beat rises like those hydraulic cars

And even pulls drunks out of those bars

I want to dance the night away

Just like music did that day

storybook love

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

Its story is written in the textbooks of history

Love me or love me not? That is the question

This love that’s felt is a fairy tale of sorts

When a man meets a woman

Sweeping her off of her dainty feet

Making butterflies fly into the night

Igniting feelings of longing

All with a kiss goodnight

Prince charming comes to claim his bride

And lead her into happily ever after

Riding horseback through the haunting wood

To an enchanted land that glitters of gold

A white picket fence

Surrounding a beautiful home

Children running wild without a care in the world

This storybook love lives

As we breathe in fresh lilies in a never-ending field of green

Cuddled with the love of your life

As you watch the sun drift behind the crest of the earth

Planning a future of peace and harmony

Living happily ever after

war of words

By: Tony L. Jefferson, Jr.

These words clash to control my thoughts

They determine the thinking of my pen

As it slashes genius across this blank canvas

These are my thoughts fighting for freedom

From the confines of my mind

The deep bruises left on this paper

Define the emotions felt as this is written

Written from the heart of passion

Spoken like soulful lyrics flowing from the voice of an angel

Words that need no weapons

Only using the force resonating for the waiting ear

To hear

These words are crazy and wild

But organize themselves into a harmonious union

Making sense out of senseless confusion

Trapping the heart into an emotional conundrum

The battle for supremacy rages in my head

Waging a war of words inside my mind
